The GYM @ Twin Beaches
It's been a bit wet on the trails lately and when the rain pours in the morning I sometimes reconsider my plan to put on my runners and step outside. I've been contemplating a gym membership but because I love to be in the outdoors, I've kept putting it off. Yesterday, after I finished a course my husband picked me up with this punch card to the gym @ Twin Beaches on Gabriola. As you can see I haven't used it yet, but it looks like a great gym that I look forward to going to.

Fireworks are in the air!
We have absolutely loved the tradition of going to the Gabriola Sands Provincial Park (the “twin beaches”) on Halloween to watch the Fireworks since Jennifer and I were about 4 years old. This is a great community event, where the kids can get some treats, the firefighters serve hot chocolate, there is a large bonfire (well under control), and a fantastic display of fireworks to delight the eyes. The Gabriola Volunteer Firefighters have been treating islanders to this event for over 30 years. It’s always been a strong family tradition for us to attend, and with youngsters in the family we will surely continue to attend for years to come. If you’re looking for Jen on Halloween, she’ll be “dressed up” in her firefighting gear helping out at the Fireworks.Saturday, October 31. Fireworks start at 7pm.

Supporting Terry Fox
The Terry Fox run is a great event, and what a way to spend some time with your family. We attended the run on Gabriola which started at the Twin Beaches on Sunday Sept 13. Paul Gray gave an inspiring speech in which he shared his story, it touches home to hear someone sharing their personal experience. Val then led us in a warm-up and we were definately warm enough by the time we started the run. There were two distances you could choose, either the 5km or 10km toward Olebar point. I had a great time on the run, while my 6yr old daughter rode ahead, my 4yr old and I worked hard to catch up.
