As we get ready for the Studio Tour, we will begin to introduce you to the works of some of the artists opening their studios on Thanksgiving weekend. Today's artist is Simone Bell, I have a few pieces made from her and love them, they range from decorative to functional, and lots of times a mix of both.

As a Ceramic Artist I first create my canvass which is either two or three dimensional. I work with 5 types of clay creating porcelain jewelry, raku wall art and high fire functional pieces. Some of the many themes that inspire me are the stunning natural beauty of the West Coast, whimsical creatures (such as mermaids), spirituality and our human emotions. My functional pieces are art you can use and I hope the decorative ones are a unique way to add beauty to your home. Come see for yourself at the Island of Peace Yoga Centre beside the Co-op.

The Gabriola Studio Tour is quickly approaching and will be held over the Thanksgiving weekend, Oct 8, 9, & 10. I love the tour, it's a great time to meet people, check out studios, talk with other artists and there is a great vibe on the Island during the weekend. We've been busy creating pieces all year long and hope that you find the time to pop on by. If you fall in love with the Island while your here, we'd be more than pleased to find you a place to live! On May 11th, the Gabriola Arts Council launched the new "Studio Tour 2010 Gabriola Island" brochure at the Roxy. Nina (Paprika Designs) has once again produced a glossy and visually stunning brochure. This year you will find 38 artists on the tour, offering a bit of everything in each price range, gather gifts or buy yourself some fabulous local art. Artists marked with a star, indicate that they are new on the tour. My sister and I are going on the tour together this year, we're really looking forward to the whole process, from gathering materials, creating pieces, displaying our work and opening the doors on the Thanksgiving long weekend.
